Your recent article on the Zika virus is most interesting.1 The disease can presently be seen worldwide in tropical and non-tropical countries and there are causes for concern for all doctors and surgeons.2 Congenital defects might be an interesting topic in maxillofacial surgery but there are also other considerations. First, because the disease is spread by mosquitoes, endemic areas pose more of a risk of infection to the practitioner. If there is a patient with the Zika virus in the ward, then transmission to other patients as well as the medical staff is possible if the control of mosquitoes is not complete.
