Intermaxillary fixation with sutures: RAI Modification

Intermaxillary fixation with the help of screws, arch bars, eyelet wiring, direct interdental wiring,1 buccolingual stabilisation,2 and loop-designed wire,3 is common. All of these techniques take time and require us to manipulate wires, which increases the chances of percutaneous injury to the fingers. We recommend the use of 1-0 polypropylene suture (Prolene, Ethicon) for achieving fixation intraoperatively, and for short-term treatments (Fig. 1).
