• The impact of continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) treatment on a large panel of memory processes in obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) patients is explored.• A randomized, sham-controlled trial using 6 weeks of CPAP versus sham CPAP was conducted.• Three separate memory systems were evaluated: verbal, procedural, and working memory.• Six weeks of CPAP did not improve the memory processes in OSA patients.• The study findings suggest the existence of a complex OSA−neurocognitive relationship.
