The facial artery musculomucosal flap in the reconstruction of the cocaine-induced hard palate fistula

Abstract

The versatility of the facial artery musculomucosal (FAMM) flap has been employed in the reconstruction of a number of defects in the head and neck region. Closure of the cocaine-induced palatal fistula is complex, in particular because of the poor quality local tissue. To date, the FAMM flap has yet to be reported in this situation. We describe our experience with one such case, detailing our rationale for choosing the FAMM flap, intra-operative technique, and recommendations for other surgeons with similar cases.

Level of Evidence: Level V, therapeutic study.
