Peripheral nerve function in patients with excessive fragmentary myoclonus during sleep

sleep3065-fig-0001.sml

• This study demonstrated that excessive fragmentary myoclonus (EFM) according to AASM criteria is a frequent incidental finding in patients who undergo polysomnography for any clinical reason.• Half of the patients who have EFM meeting AASM criteria have peripheral nerve pathology.• This study showed that EFM is not primarily a sleep-related phenomenon but only persists during sleep.• Patients with an incidental PSG diagnosis of EFM should undergo electrophysiological workup for peripheral nerve pathology.
