Corlan and Ross, in their "Kinetics methods for clinical epidemiology problems" (Corlan and Ross, 2015) formulated the clinician's problem: "Given what we know about an individual, what is the probability of each possible health outcome for him or her after a definite period?"; and the epidemiologist's problem: "prediction of the prevalence of each species [health status and/or pathologic conditions] in time, given an initial variable value distribution". These problems cannot be easily overcome for chronic diseases.
