Aeroallergen sensitivities and development of chronic rhinosinusitis in thirteen adults who initially had allergic rhinitis

Abstract

Based on common comorbidity, immunologic mediators and symptomatology, there exist reported epidemiologic and pathophysiologic links between allergic rhinitis (AR) and chronic rhinosinusitis (CRS).1-3 In addition, AR has previously been associated with individuals who develop CRS.4 While it has previously been reported that obstructive sinonasal variants may be associated with the development of CRS in adults with AR5,6, the relationship between the degree of atopy and development of CRS in adults remains uncharacterized.
