HEMET, Calif. — A 5-year-old California girl is feeling much better after a safety pin that had been lodged in her nose for six months came out.
6ABC.com reported Khloe Russell started experiencing a constant runny nose.
"Her nose just started (running) out of this one side. Green, green, green constantly and it stunk," said Katelyn Powell, Khole's mother.
Powell took Khloe to three different doctors in an attempt to solve the runny nose problem, all of whom thought she had a sinus infection.
"We went home, did 10 days of medication, didn't work," said Powell. "We took her even to the dentist because we thought it was her teeth — nothing."
Powell's brother was ultimately able to solve the mystery.
"My brother was like, 'Your nose, it's disgusting. Blow your nose, blow your nose.' And she blows it and out comes the safety pin," said Powell.
The safety pin, black and disintegrating from months in Khloe's nose, was 1.5 inches long.
"It was a huge object. It was bigger than her nose," said Powell. "We were horrified. I was like, 'Did you put this up there?' She did, but she forgot to tell me."
Powell said there was no way the doctors could have known about the pin because it did not show up when they used a scope on Khloe's nostril.
