This study provides evidence for a novel role for NFKB1 in human B cell development, both in the bone marrow and in the periphery, and in particular in the expansion of CD21^lo B cells, a subset of innate-like B cells associated with autoimmune phaenomena, with evident implications in clinical conditions where autoimmunity complicates the clinical course of the disease.
